Well the month of Oct. for CCSFW means our annual coat distribution. This year we have been given a new spot but in the same location which seems to work well with everyone. We also added more evening distributions this year . This means we actually get to see the children's faces as they receive their coat and express what color they would like in a hat and gloves. We also set up a "reading corner" this year. It is manned by volunteers from older school children to older adults. While waiting their turn to get fitted with a coat the child can listen to a book and then pick one out to take home.
The coats started arriving in August and our inventory ladies started working to set up a very efficient system of locating and keeping track of all our coats. What a job it is to keep track of what is going out each week. We had many hand knitted hats, scarves and gloves again this year. There are women in our community who knit away all summer for the children in our area. These items are so beautiful and greatly appreciated.
Bishop Rhoades graciously blessed our new space. He even took advantage of receiving a flu shot from Parkview Community Health group who give out free flu shots during our distribution times to adults.
The numbers of families that we have served so far is tremendous. One week in just 3 short hours our ladies gave 593 coats away. Check back here for updates on totals and on our facebook page Christ Child Society Fort Wayne.
